December 12, 2024

Good evening,

My family and I are very pleased with our experience. There were several highly recommended places, all of which were wonderful.

The driver, Akira-san, and especially Mr. Kim, were exceptionally kind and thoughtful. Even though we couldn’t speak Japanese, they were very caring. To our surprise, Mr. Kim could speak Korean, which I can as well, so communication was seamless.

The driver provided many recommendations, even when the weather was unpredictable. We had so much fun throughout this trip. There was a particularly bad snowstorm on our way to Noboribetsu, but it turned into an unforgettable memory.

Thank you for the excellent preparation and for responding quickly to questions, such as regarding luggage arrangements.

In the future, if we explore another area of Japan, we will definitely come back.

Thank you! 😊

Today, you’ll continue your journey in Kyoto with two iconic sites rich in history and culture.

The morning begins with a visit to Kinkakuji (The Golden Pavilion), one of the most famous temples in Japan.
Surrounded by a beautiful Japanese garden and a pond reflecting the golden glow of the pavilion, Kinkakuji offers breathtaking views. As you walk along the stone paths toward the pavilion, you’ll feel a sense of peace and serenity that can only be found here. Its mesmerizing beauty will make you feel like you’re inside a painting.

After admiring the beauty of Kinkakuji, we’ll head to Nijo Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with immense historical significance.
Built in the 17th century, this castle once served as the residence of the Tokugawa shoguns. As you enter the Ninomaru Palace, you’ll be transported back in time, with walls and ceilings adorned with classic Japanese artwork. One of the most fascinating features of this castle is the “Nightingale Floors”, which chirp like birds when walked upon — an ingenious security system designed to detect intruders.

After these two historic experiences, you’ll continue your journey to Nagoya, a modern city full of life and industry.
We’ll board the Shinkansen, Japan’s iconic bullet train, known for its speed and comfort, for a swift ride to Nagoya. This train journey will give you a chance to enjoy the incredible scenery through the window while experiencing the impressive speed that defines Japan’s transportation system.

Day 6: Magome and Tsumago-juku

This morning, we will pick you up in Hotel Nagoya with our comfortable private car for a journey filled with natural beauty and historical charm. The drive to Nakasendo, the ancient trade route that connected Kyoto and Edo (now Tokyo), offers stunning landscapes along the way.

Upon arrival in Magome, a picturesque village with traditional stone-paved streets, you’ll step back in time to the Edo period. Here, you can feel the atmosphere of old Japan as you stroll through narrow streets lined with historic wooden houses. After taking in the beauty of this village, you’ll begin a gentle trek toward Tsumagojuku, another quaint village that has preserved its traditional charm.

This trek will lead you through breathtaking natural scenery lush green forests, rolling hills, and the fresh mountain air that calms the spirit. Every step will bring you closer to the untouched beauty of rural Japan, far from the hustle and bustle of city life.

After enjoying the refreshing trek, we’ll continue our journey to Takayama, a charming town known for its well-preserved Old Town. Here, you’ll spend the night in a traditional ryokan, where you’ll experience the authentic ambiance of Japan. Sleep on tatami mats and enjoy a delicious kaiseki meal, a multi-course feast that highlights the flavors of Japanese cuisine.

Day 7: Takayama

Takayama Old Town

Your day begins in the charming town of Takayama, nestled in the Japanese Alps, where the air is fresh, and the streets are lined with history. Today, you’ll step back in time as you explore the beautifully preserved Old Town, which has remained largely unchanged for centuries.

As you wander through the narrow lanes, you’ll be transported to the Edo period, with wooden merchant houses, traditional storefronts, and picturesque tea houses lining the streets. The buildings, many dating back to the 17th century, are an excellent example of how Japan’s old traditions have been carefully preserved.

One of the highlights of the day is a visit to the Takayama Jinya, a historic government building that once served as the headquarters of the region’s local government during the Edo period. As you explore its spacious rooms and beautiful garden, you’ll learn about the important role Takayama played during that time. The tatami-matted rooms and wooden beams will make you feel like you’ve stepped into the past.

Next, we’ll visit the Yatai Kaikan (Festival Floats Exhibition Hall), where you can admire the intricate festival floatsused during the famous Takayama Festival. These beautifully decorated floats are a symbol of the town’s rich cultural heritage and are a sight to behold. The vibrant colors and delicate craftsmanship make them truly mesmerizing.

As you continue your stroll, you’ll visit the Sannomachi Street, where you can browse through local shops selling handmade goods like sarubobo dolls (traditional lucky charms) and Hida beef products — a local delicacy. If you’re a fan of traditional sweets, stop by one of the sweet shops to try some of the town’s famous confections, such as takayama manju.

For lunch, you’ll have the chance to try Hida beef — renowned for its marbled texture and rich flavor — served in various forms, from sukiyaki to yakiniku (grilled), or perhaps as a delicious steak.

After lunch, enjoy some free time to wander through the streets at your own pace, taking in the peaceful ambiance of this historical town. Takayama is the perfect place to slow down and reflect on the simplicity and beauty of traditional Japan.

Your day concludes with a visit to the Hida Folk Village, a lovely open-air museum showcasing traditional thatched-roof houses and artifacts that give you a glimpse into the life of Japan’s rural past. Here, you can experience the country’s rich history through the homes and tools of the local people, offering insight into how they lived and worked hundreds of years ago.

Day 8: Shirakawago and Kanazawa

Shirakawago Old House

After soaking in the beauty and tranquility of Takayama, today we’ll continue our journey to two equally breathtaking destinations: Shirakawago and Kanazawa.

The day begins with a scenic drive towards Shirakawago, a village renowned for its iconic gassho-zukuri houses(traditional thatched-roof houses with steep, A-shaped roofs). These unique houses have been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Upon arriving in Shirakawago, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped into a time capsule. The houses are built in a way that allows them to withstand heavy snowfall in the winter and provide warmth inside. You’ll have time to wander the village, cross bridges over tranquil streams, and admire the stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Don’t miss the chance to visit a few of these traditional houses, now functioning as museums, where you can learn about the lifestyle of the people who once lived there.

After exploring Shirakawago, we’ll continue our journey to Kanazawa, a city rich in culture and history. Once you arrive in Kanazawa, you’ll be welcomed by a city that has successfully preserved its cultural heritage.

Day 9: Kanazawa City Tour

Kanazawa

Your first stop is Kenroku-en Garden, one of the most beautiful gardens in Japan. As you step through the garden gates, you’re greeted with a breathtaking scene: a serene pond surrounded by blooming cherry blossoms. The sound of nature and the gentle breeze make every step feel like walking into a painting. Beneath the towering trees, you pause to reflect, feeling as though you’ve entered a world outside of time, where the beauty of nature remains timeless.

After soaking in the tranquility of the garden, you continue your journey to Kanazawa Castle. Standing tall on a hill, the castle tells the story of a past filled with power and struggle. You admire the grand gates and the stone walls that surround the castle, sensing the strength of history in the air. Walking around the castle grounds, you take in the panoramic views of Kanazawa, imagining what life might have been like here centuries ago.

From the castle, you make your way to Higashi Chaya District, a historic geisha district filled with old-world charm. Here, centuries-old wooden houses stand gracefully, and narrow winding streets lead you to hidden corners brimming with stories. You enter one of the traditional tea houses, where the fragrant aroma of tea and the sound of traditional music soothe your mind. You feel as if you’ve stepped back in time, experiencing the life of the geishas and maikos who once graced this area, surrounded by an enchanting and magical atmosphere.

As you continue, hunger starts to set in, and you head to Omicho Market, a bustling marketplace known for its fresh seafood. The moment you arrive, the smell of fresh fish and seafood fills the air, tempting your senses. You try a bowl of Kaisen-don, rice topped with the freshest seafood, each bite tasting like the sea itself. It’s a true taste of Kanazawa’s coastal richness.

By the afternoon, you make your way to the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art. Inside, the modern design and the contemporary art collection greet you in a new way. One of the most striking pieces is “Open Sky,” an installation that lets visitors walk beneath the open sky, even though they are inside a building. You feel a sense of freedom, as if space and time have stopped, giving room for imagination to flourish.

As the day winds down, you visit the Kanazawa History and Cultural Museum. Here, you find a variety of artifacts that show how the people of Kanazawa lived throughout history. With every exhibit, you gain a deeper understanding of how the city evolved into a place that beautifully blends tradition, art, and innovation.

Finally, as evening falls, you conclude your Kanazawa tour. On your way back, you reflect on the memories of a city that offers not only the beauty of nature and culture but also a lesson in preserving heritage and celebrating the richness of different eras. Kanazawa, with all its wonders, has left an unforgettable imprint on your heart.

Day 10: Return to Tokyo

You head to the station and board the Shinkansen, the high-speed bullet train that will swiftly take you back to Japan’s capital. The smooth and comfortable ride offers beautiful views along the way, with the scenery shifting from mountains to vast plains.

Upon arriving in Tokyo, the bustling, energetic atmosphere of the city welcomes you. The bright neon lights and the busy streets filled with people moving in every direction make it clear that Tokyo is a city that never sleeps. You’re excited because today is the day to shop to your heart’s content for souvenirs!

Thank you! 😊

Thank you! 😊

Thank you! 😊

Thank you! 😊
