About Shirakawago in Summer
Shirakawago in summer offers a completely different atmosphere from its famous winter scenery. From June to August, the village is surrounded by lush green mountains, rice fields, colorful flowers, and clear rivers, creating a peaceful countryside landscape in the heart of the Japanese Alps. The contrast between the traditional Gassho-zukuri farmhouses and the vibrant greenery makes summer one of the most beautiful seasons to visit this UNESCO World Heritage village.
Located in Shirakawa-go, the village was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995 and remains one of Japan’s best-preserved traditional rural communities. The iconic Gassho-zukuri houses, with their steep thatched roofs, were originally designed to withstand heavy snowfall but look equally stunning against the backdrop of green fields and blue summer skies.

- Pleasant mountain climate compared to many Japanese cities.

Good evening,
My family and I are very pleased with our experience. There were several highly recommended places, all of which were wonderful.
The driver, Akira-san, and especially Mr. Kim, were exceptionally kind and thoughtful. Even though we couldn’t speak Japanese, they were very caring. To our surprise, Mr. Kim could speak Korean, which I can as well, so communication was seamless.
The driver provided many recommendations, even when the weather was unpredictable. We had so much fun throughout this trip. There was a particularly bad snowstorm on our way to Noboribetsu, but it turned into an unforgettable memory.
Thank you for the excellent preparation and for responding quickly to questions, such as regarding luggage arrangements.
In the future, if we explore another area of Japan, we will definitely come back.
Thank you! 😊
