2 Days 1 Night Asahikawa And Mount Asahidake From Sapporo

March 16, 2023 by WISATA JEPANG

1. 2D1N Asahikawa Furano From Sapporo

Asahikawa

A fantastic blend of natural activities and sightseeing, the perfect way to spend a day is to visit Asahikawa’s renowned zoo, enjoy sake and ramen, and then take a ropeway ride up to Mt. Asahidake’s Sugatami highland plateau.

The day commences with a two-hour drive to Hokkaido’s finest zoo – Asahiyama Zoo – which is famous for its imaginative enclosures and diverse range of both local and foreign animals. After visiting the zoo, we will proceed to a century-old sake brewery that provides free samples, followed by a scrumptious lunch.

Asahiyama Zoo Asahikawa

Subsequently, we’ll drive an hour to the base of Hokkaido’s highest mountain, Mt. Asahidake, to board the ropeway to the Sugatami Highland Plateau.

Here, we’ll embark on an easy 1 to 2-hour nature trail among small ponds that lead to a series of steaming fumaroles (sulfur vents), where depending on the season, wildflowers, the earliest fall foliage on the island, or knee-deep snow may be observed. The day concludes with a visit to Asahidake Resort’s oldest onsen, featuring both indoor and outdoor baths.

Furano

Tucked in the heart of Hokkaido, Furano is a town where time slows down, and the countryside unfolds like a canvas painted with color, scent, and silence. Famous for its sweeping flower fields in summer and powdery ski slopes in winter, Furano is not just a destination — it’s a feeling of calm and connection with nature.

A Symphony of Flowers

Come summer, Furano transforms into a living watercolor. Fields of lavender stretch endlessly toward the horizon, swaying gently in the breeze. Farm Tomita, the crown jewel of the region, invites visitors to stroll between rows of violet, crimson, and gold, their colors dancing beneath the vast Hokkaido sky. The air here carries the subtle scent of herbs and blossoms, mingled with the sweetness of freshly sliced Furano melon, soft and sun-ripened.

At the nearby Melon House, you can sample this regional delicacy — whether chilled, sliced, or swirled into creamy soft-serve ice cream. One bite, and you’ll understand why Furano’s melon is a summer legend.

The Taste of Hokkaido

Furano is also a place where you can literally taste the land. At the Furano Cheese Factory, milk from local cows is turned into artisan cheese, yogurt, and butter, all rich with the flavor of the green hills and cool mountain air. Step inside the workshop, and you might find yourself kneading curds or watching the careful aging process that turns simple milk into something extraordinary.

Whispers of the Forest

Nestled in a grove of trees near the New Furano Prince Hotel lies a little wooden village called Ningle Terrace — a place that feels straight out of a fairy tale. Created by renowned scriptwriter Sō Kuramoto, this lantern-lit path winds between hand-built cottages where local artisans craft candles, paper goods, and tiny treasures. In the quiet of the forest, you can hear the soft murmur of wind and the occasional creak of wood — it’s peaceful, magical, and utterly unforgettable.

From Snow to Serenity

In winter, Furano wears a different cloak — one of white silence. The Furano Ski Resort becomes a haven for snow-lovers, offering world-class powder without the crowds of other resorts. Whether you’re carving down gentle slopes or sipping hot cocoa by the fireplace, winter in Furano feels like stepping into a snow globe.

A Place That Lingers

Even after you’ve left, Furano stays with you — in the scent of lavender, the taste of sweet melon, the feel of wooden cottages under your fingers. It is a place where the seasons speak, where nature is both wild and welcoming, and where visitors are not just tourists but guests of the land.

Furano Hokkaido

Tour Highlights:

  • Experience the thrill of taking the Asahidake Ropeway and hiking at the Sugatami Plateau to the base of Mt. Asahidake, Hokkaido’s highest peak, where you’ll see volcanic ponds, summer wildflowers, Japan’s earliest fall foliage, and steaming fumaroles.
  • Visit Asahiyama Zoo, renowned for its innovative animal enclosures and unique vantage points, including the irresistibly adorable penguin parade during the winter months.
  • Learn about the ancient art of sake brewing at Otokoyama Sake Brewery ( Optional ) and enjoy free samples while you’re there. You may also purchase sake to take home with you.
  • Savor the famous shouyu ramen of Asahikawa at the Ramen Village, a specialty ramen that’s well-known throughout Hokkaido (self-pay). Other lunch options are also available.
  • You will also visit Furano in day 2, Ningle Terrace or Furano Chese Factory. For Summer And Autumn Season you should visit Farm Tomita for beautiful lavender and another flower.

December 12, 2024

Good evening,

My family and I are very pleased with our experience. There were several highly recommended places, all of which were wonderful.

The driver, Akira-san, and especially Mr. Kim, were exceptionally kind and thoughtful. Even though we couldn’t speak Japanese, they were very caring. To our surprise, Mr. Kim could speak Korean, which I can as well, so communication was seamless.

The driver provided many recommendations, even when the weather was unpredictable. We had so much fun throughout this trip. There was a particularly bad snowstorm on our way to Noboribetsu, but it turned into an unforgettable memory.

Thank you for the excellent preparation and for responding quickly to questions, such as regarding luggage arrangements.

In the future, if we explore another area of Japan, we will definitely come back.

Thank you! 😊

Angel Stephanie
